Headlights Restoration

About this Package

Over time, exposure to sunlight, weather, road debris, and environmental contaminants can cause headlight lenses to become yellow, cloudy, faded, and dull. Headlight restoration removes the damaged outer layer of the lens and refines the surface to restore its clarity and appearance.

Our restoration process combines progressive sanding, scratch refinement, compounding, polishing, and UV protection to bring heavily oxidized lenses back to a much clearer finish.

The final UV-protective coating is an important part of the process. After the lens has been restored, the protective layer helps shield the surface from further UV damage and helps maintain the restored clarity.

Restoration Process:

Step 1. Prep & Mask

We thoroughly clean the headlight lens and mask the surrounding painted surfaces to protect your vehicle during the restoration process.

This is consistent with professional restoration procedures from 3M, which begin by cleaning the lens and masking the surrounding area.

The damaged outer layer of the lens is carefully sanded to remove yellowing, oxidation, haze, and surface defects. Progressive sanding is used to create a clean and uniform surface for the next stages.

We progressively refine the sanding marks using finer abrasives. Each stage reduces the scratches from the previous step and prepares the lens for polishing.

A professional 3M process, for example, progresses through approximately P500 → P800 → P1000 → P3000 before moving to compounding and polishing.

The refined lens is compounded to remove the remaining fine sanding marks, followed by polishing to improve clarity, gloss, and overall finish.

Once the lens has been restored and properly prepared, we apply a UV-protective finish to help protect the restored surface from future UV exposure and environmental damage.

We inspect the restored lens for clarity, uniformity, and finish, clean the surrounding area, and make sure the headlights are ready to get back on the road.

FAQs

Most headlight restoration appointments can be completed within approximately 60–90 minutes, depending on the condition of the lenses and the level of restoration required.
Headlight lenses are exposed to UV radiation, weather, road debris, and environmental contaminants over time. This can cause the outer surface to oxidize, becoming yellow, hazy, or cloudy.
Light surface scratches and oxidation can often be significantly reduced through sanding and polishing. Deeper scratches, cracks, damage inside the lens, or severe deterioration may not be fully removable.
Restoration can significantly improve clarity and appearance, but the final result depends on the condition of the lens. Severe internal damage, cracks, or deep defects may require replacement rather than restoration.
UV protection helps protect the restored lens from further UV exposure. It is an important final step because simply polishing the lens does not provide the same protective barrier.
The longevity depends on the condition of the lens, the protective system used, vehicle exposure, and maintenance. Proper UV protection helps extend the life of the restoration.
Yes, heavily oxidized lenses can often be restored through a more extensive sanding and refinement process. However, if the lens has cracks, deep structural damage, or significant deterioration inside the assembly, replacement may be more appropriate.

Yes. Headlight restoration is normally performed on the pair so both headlights have a consistent appearance and finish.
